How to Make Puppy Paw Balm

Protect your pup’s sensitive paw pads with this thick, rich paw balm! Cracked or dry paw pads from salty sidewalks in winter or hot asphalt in summer can make your best friend very unhappy. This balm recipe is made with a selection of nourishing oils and butters that are safe for your dog. Mango Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, and Sunflower Oil are pet safe emollients that are excellent for damaged paws. Unscented beeswax makes a thick, protective balm that prevents water loss and is resistant to licking. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that is also anti-inflammatory and increases the shelf life of the product.

We don’t recommend that you make any substitutions in this recipe. The oils and butters were chosen for this formula because they are safe to ingest if your pup licks his or her paws (which inevitably happens). White Beeswax Pastilles are a better choice than our Natural Beeswax Pastilles in this recipe because the honey scent of the Natural Pastilles might encourage your dog to lick his or her paws even more.

Do not add any fragrance oils or essential oils to this product. A particular scent may not be safe for dogs and dogs’ noses are more sensitive than ours. Fragrance may also encourage your dog to lick the balm off.

Puppy Paw Balm is not recommended for cats. (As if your cat would allow you to apply paw balm!)

This recipe is terrific for humans, too! Save a tin to use on your lips, cuticles, elbows and heels.

You can also package this product in tubes, if you like.
