How to Make Customized Alcohol-Based Cleansing Hand Rub
Our Rinse Free Alcohol Cleansing Hand Wash is unscented, crystal clear and evaporates in seconds when applied to the hands.
Why Alcohol and does it lead to bacteria resistance?
Hand washing is among the easiest ways to prevent the spread of germs that can cause illness. But, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), if soap and water are not available, using a hand cleanser with at least 60% alcohol can help you avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many studies have found alcohol based cleansers with a concentration between 60–95% alcohol are more effective at killing germs than those with a lower alcohol concentration or non-alcohol-based cleansers. Practicing proper hand hygiene is the most recommended way to help reduce the risk of infection.
This unscented, crystal clear gel evaporates in seconds when applied to the hands and leaves you feeling thoroughly clean, moisturized and refreshed. Our special blend of moisturizers condition skin to keep hands soft and smooth, even with frequent use.
Glycerin also helps moisturize and counteract the drying effects of alcohol.
The Aloe Vera present is a natural soothing and healing agent.
Also included in the gel are Pro Vitamin B-5 and Vitamin E, both of which contribute to healthy looking and great feeling skin.
Use unscented (as-is) or add Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil at a ratio of .5 – 3%.
If cloudiness occurs, let it sit for 24 hours and the base should clear. A gentle mix should result in a crystal clear product. A faster mix will introduce air bubbles into the base and will result in a bubbly effect. Add color by using our Water-Soluble Liquid Colorants. The base is a cold mix base, so no heating is necessary. It doesn’t get any easier!

INGREDIENTS

- Water-Soluble Liquid Colorant (optional)
DIRECTIONS
Step 1
Using isopropyl alcohol, sanitize all supplies that will come in contact with the Hand Rub Gel Base.
Step 2
Add Hand Rub Gel Base to funnel pitcher or glass measuring cup.
To get every bit out of the container, carefully cut it in half with a utility knife, always cutting away from your body.
Add remaining gel base to pitcher.
Step 3
Add 0.25-0.5% Essential Oil or Fragrance Oil. We prefer Essential Oils because of their natural antibacterial and antifungal properties. For this project we used 1% (0.16 oz / 5 g) of Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil. Always test Essential Oils and Fragrances in a small amount of base, as some fragrances cause the base to thin. Also check that the amount you are going to use is skin safe.
Step 4
Mix thoroughly.
Step 5
Using a funnel or funnel pitcher, fill your choice of container. If using the lotion mini container, a pipette can be used to fill it, as the opening is rather small.
It’s that easy and ready to use! Enjoy!
